Halloween & Central Park foliage

Back from Maxi's christening in Sydney for Halloween in NYC, with the usual crazy stoop art not as prevalent as previous years. No comparison with Sculptures by the Sea, but must admit when i passed the "crime scene" (picture 1) on the way home from the airport last night at first I thought it was real (the paint really looked like blood in the twilight). Picture 3 is the Halloween display in the garden of our apartment block.

The foliage in Central Park is nearing its peak this weekend, too.

Sunday Oct 17th: perfect weather for looking at the foliage

Yesterday was good, but today there was a clear blue sky which made it perfect for looking at the foliage. These photos are taken around Millerton, where the season is peaking. Hard to believe these bucolic scenes are just 2 hours from Manhattan. And it was only 0C at 7a.m., with a frost, but getting up to 19 by mid afternoon

more foliage

Massachusetts foliage

haven't been to Millerton for a few weeks, so came by car this time so we could drive up into Massachusetts to see the foliage, although it wasn't a great day for it being overcast and showery at times. also cold - didn't get much above 10C. Supposed to be a better day tomorrow. it was pretty spectacular and close to its peak. stopped off on the way for breakfast at the Millbrook NY diner. The later photos are at the Norman Rockwell museum in Stockbridge MA. More MA foliage next blog

Saturday: John Lennon's 70th

Yesterday would have been John Lennon's 70th. He and Yoko really were honorary New Yorkers. Today we went to "Strawberry Fields", a section of Central Park across the street from the Dakota Building where he lived and was murdered, to pay homage. Funnily, it is also where we meet our running buddies every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 6 am, rain hail or shine but seemed totally different today. It has been glorious weather all weekend: around 20C and not a cloud in the sky.
