Guess who had his first day of preschool today!!
As well as being NYC Mayoral election day and Jean's 80th birthday (Happy Birthday Mum!!), today will go down in the record books as Xavi's first day of school. For 90 minutes twice a week - school would be great if those were always the hours!!
As his teacher emailed us, he had a great day: "Hello Monica, I just wanted to say again how well Xavier did today. I am sending along a photo of him with "Thomas"--he quite enjoyed playing with him this morning. Take care and see you Thursday."

Sunday at the beach
Although "summer" ended last Monday (Labor Day), beaches are still open [without lifeguards] in Connecticut until the end of September so we rented a Zipcar and drove 80km/90 minutes each way to go to this 'amazing' beach, Jennings Beach, in Fairfield CT. Recommended by a friend and pretty good by Northeast standards. On Long Island Sound and the sand was grey and gravelly. At least Xavi had a lot of fun. It was sunny, about 25 degrees and and felt like about 20 in the water at least where it was shallow. There is also a great playground on the other side of the parking lot called Sandcastles. We will probably go there again next summer.

An unexpected visitor to New York
Peppa Pig is unheard of here, although 2 episodes are shown each day at 2.30 pm on the cable channel Nick Jr. And this event was at the Scholastic book store - purely for nerds
Happy Australian Fathers Day
