Back in NY, and brought our bikes to Millerton for the weekend. as well the 34 km return trip on the Rail Trail, this morning we cycled 25 km over to Salisbury & Lakeville, CT. Just being on the other side of the North Atlantic from France, may be not surprising there are geographical similarities, including killer hills. Also similar farming styles. Even found a bottle of Cahors malbec in the local wine store. Coincidentally, along the way there was an 'estate sale' (the ultimate garage sale) at the mansion of the recently-deceased John Rudd, who lived in a Civil War-era mansion on 10 acres in Lakeville - complete with French shutters.

We take our helmets off to you! Although we had good intentions of continuing to ride when we arrived home, the chilly weather and need to sleep kept us firmly tucked up in bed until the late hours of Sunday morning. Thanks for the thank you and the blogposts that I've finally read. Many thanks Paul for chronicling our journey.Have been able to share your blog with lots of the teachers at work. Much easier than trying to trawl through our photos.

ReplyDeletethanks Jenny. almost no jetlag coming back here - only 8 hr flight in daylight hours and only 6 hrs time difference. we were a bit stiff. i will put some Sarlat-Rocamador photos on. Thanks also for itnroducing me to the world of blogging! Glad it has been useful
ReplyDeleteThat hill does look eerily familiar. Is that 1998 on the bottle of Cahors? How was it? Also, echoing Jenny's comments. Well blogged in SW France. We hardly ever got lost
ReplyDeleteif you click on the photos it blows them up, and you will see alas it was a 2008. and also a nice etching of the ponte valentre. double click, and they blow up to full size. Like the South American malbecs, it is very close to an Oz shiraz. Cost $11.99 (+tax). we also can get a nice bergerac red at our local bottle shop, like a pinot noir, for $9.99. no bergerac sec or rose, however.
